Single/Dual Line Reefing
When reefing in strong winds on choppy water you can walk to the mast and secure the tack of the reef and then hang half overboard and tie the new clew to the boom. You can also reef safely from the cockpit with two lines (Dual Line Reefing) or with one line (Single Line Reefing) if that system works well.
There is no universal system that works well on all vessels. There is no universal system that works well for all skippers/owners. There is no universal system that works well under all circumstances.
It is always about custom work and it must always be adjusted for an optimal connection to the ship and skipper/owner.
